Sonoma County, is of course first and foremost known for its wine. And there are so so many incredible wineries to tour, it would be impossible to list them all here. Our favorites include Chateau St Jean, St. Francis Winery, Landmark Vineyards, and Ferrari-Carano Vineyards. Make sure to have a designated driver, lol.
If you like to bike then Sonoma is a going to be heaven for you. The Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve and the West County Trail are two that are fairly easy and scenic. Biking through (or floating down) the Russian River is another way to explore this area of Sonoma County. If you’re a bicyclist, you can ride along the Russian River and down to the Pacific Ocean in an invigorating 36-mile loop from Occidental, then Highway1 south to Bodega Bay and return to Occidental. Petaluma, formerly the “Egg Basket of the World”, is our town to hang out in while getting the car repaired (for your information: for some reason there’s tons of car repair shops in Petaluma). Our faves: stroll along North Petaluma Blvd, shop in old town, have some tasty soup at the Wild Goat Bistro and kill some time perusing magazines at Copperfield’s Books on Kentucky Street. Then take the dog to the Deer Creek Village dog park. As you head north on Highway 101 you pass Cotati and Rohnert Park but if you wish to get off the main route, then taking a detour via Sebastopol and down to Bodega Bay is definitely worth your time. Pack a lunch. Santa Rosa has got breweries, ballooning, hiking and biking and lots more. On the list: Railroad Square, the Charles Schultz Peanuts Museum, and something we’ve been aching to do for awhile now, see the wild animals at Safari West. At the northern end of Sonoma County there’s the town of Windsor, and the used to be sleepy town of Healdsburg. These days it’s gone totally chic and crazy expensive, so don’t forget the credit cards. Free Junk Removal Resources in Sonoma County In line with most other Bay Area counties, Sonoma County’s Recology allows most residential customers up to two free junk pickups a year. A more detailed breakdown by city can be accessed here. You’ll have to check with them directly for details, but it looks like some towns, like Petaluma, Santa Rosa, and Cotati, may be the only ones eligible for the two free junk bulk item pickups per year. Just call them up and schedule. Anything more than that, or if other kinds of waste are involved, then you’ll need to consider the services of a professional junk hauler like us.
